Taylor Pu‘uohau

Officer Position of Interest: President

My name is Taylor Pu'uohau and I'm currently a junior majoring in Biology and Public Health. I graduated from Kamehameha in 2016 and grew up in Palolo. I love to read, hang out with friends, go to the gym, and watch YouTube or Netflix in my free time! Upon graduating I would like to attend medical school and get my MPH. My passion is in helping underserved and disadvantaged communities so I would love to give back to those living in those populations in Hawaii in the future.

Why are you interested in this position?

PMA has always been an important aspect of my college career. I've gotten to expand my network of health professionals and it's where I met a lot of peers who I now consider life long friends. PMA has given me a lot of opportunities and I want to be able to give back to the club by serving on the board and making sure the club still thrives! I think that I could best give back by being President because of how passionate I am to make sure PMA does well. I also think that I have the dedication and accountability necessary to make sure everything is kept to the high standard that PMA upholds.

If I were to be president next semester I think I would like to pursue the idea that was started this semester of making PMA a more inclusive organization. Hosting meetings between all the committee and board members can be really beneficial to the growth of PMA. With the amount of members we have, I think it would be helpful to get feedback and input from others to see what we can do better to help make being a member of PMA one of the most valuable experiences of our college lives.

Julia Lee

Officer Position of Interest: Vice President

I am currently a Junior entering my Senior year. I was born and raised here on Oahu and graduated from Kalani High. I played several sports growing up, my main sport being basketball which I played for 11 years and am now a basketball referee. I love traveling and have been to Europe twice and studied abroad in London last Spring. My overall goal in life is to live happily and to be of service to others.

Why are you interested in this position?

One of the previous jobs I held before was an Administrative Assistant in a management office for an ultra luxury condominium called ONE Ala Moana. The Vice President position is the same as the job I performed; I acted as the Executive Assistant when they were not there, assisted with the other departments at ONE, and helped facilitate between vendors and ONE. As part of the Community Service Committee, my job is to help facilitate between organizations and our members. As Vice President, I know I am capable of performing my duties to the best of my abilities and would thoroughly enjoy serving PMA.

As a member of the Community Service Committee, I have noticed that there are less members coming out to Community Service events. I propose giving each member one raffle ticket per event or for a certain number of hours to use for the grand prize at the banquet or for a raffle at each GM to encourage attendance at both the banquet and GMs. Each GM would have a new batch of tickets. This initiative could be applied to community service, medical education, or social events.

Julienne Saladino

Officer Position of Interest: Secretary

Hello! My name is Julienne Saladino. I am a 2nd-year student, majoring in Public Health. I joined PMA in my freshman year of college and have been an active member for 3 semesters now. My career goal is to become a family medicine physician and to work in underserved, low-income communities in Hawaii. I have a passion for helping others, and so during my free time I enjoy going to community service events and partaking in activities with other clubs at UH Manoa. Outside of school, I also love spending time with my family, as we explore new places, eat good food, and take lots of pictures! Although I have only been to a handful of places in the U.S, I do love to travel, and someday I would like to visit more places outside of the U.S, especially to countries in Asia.

Why are you interested in this position?

I am interested in being a secretary for PMA because I believe that I am capable of assuming all of the duties as secretary, which may include organizing meeting minutes, preparing emails, creating PMA’s Vital Signs, and working collaboratively with the other PMA officers. If selected to be a secretary, I would also like to use this platform to discover ways in which we can improve communication between PMA officers and their members, and increase membership involvement within the club. Lastly, if given the opportunity, I would also like to help with recruiting new members, and spreading awareness of PMA’s goals and initiatives so that more pre-health students are aware of the resources that PMA has to offer.

Megan Andrada

Officer Position of Interest: Director of Community Service

My name is Megan Andrada and I am currently a Junior majoring in Molecular Cell Biology. I was born and raised on the north shore of Oahu in Waialua, a small plantation town right next to Haleiwa. Ever since I could remember, my career aspiration has always been to become a Pediatrician. I absolutely love the healthcare field and working with children. My community lacks health care providers and I would love to return and make a difference in the community.

Why are you interested in this position?

This is my fourth semester being part of the community service committee. I feel like I am ready to take on an even greater role of becoming the Director of Community Service if I am given the opportunity. I have formed so many relationships, made lifelong friends, and have so many great memories. PMA has done so much for me and I want current and future members to have these experiences too. Since next year will be my last year in PMA, this will be my chance to give back to PMA.

This year we looked at PMA from a different approach and had to think about what members want to get out of PMA. What types of events do members enjoy and what types of new and different events could we offer? I think the most important thing to me is hearing the interests, opinions, and concerns all members in the club have, then coming together as a board and improving upon them. To me one of the initiatives I’d like to pursue is trying to plan more diverse events and on more parts of the island. The first thing is surveying what types of community service events members enjoy, don’t enjoy as much, and what events they would like more of and then trying to plan more of those. Instead of just assuming what types of events I think people like, why not hear from them first?

Jorena Gilo

Officer Position of Interest: Treasurer

Aloha! My name is Jorena and I'm from Wai'anae, Hawai'i. I am currently a junior majoring in Food Science and Human Nutrition and will be pursuing a career as a Nurse Practitioner. During my free time I enjoy the beach, cooking, watching Hulu, and spending time with my mom.

Why are you interested in this position?

I valued my time as a Treasurer Committee member and found it rewarding to be apart of an exciting organization that strives to produce future health professionals. Seeing firsthand how much of an impact we can make with the necessary amount of income motivates me to take on more responsibility as Treasurer.

Next year, I would want to continue, improve and be more creative with fundraising events. I would like to incorporate other committees like Community Service, Medical Education, and Student Relations with fundraisers. Being in this position, it is vital to have consistent feedback from our members and so I wish to create a more open environment to hear others out.

Eunice Bala

Officer Position of Interest: Director of Medical Education

My name is Eunice Bala and I was born and raised on the Island of Hawaii. I am running for your next Director of Medical Education. I will be a Junior in the upcoming year, majoring in Biology. I aspire to become an Ophthalmologist. I enjoy going on hikes, watching Netflix and playing the piano.

Why are you interested in this position?

I am interested in serving PMA as a Director of Medical Education because I think it is important to open the doors of opportunity to our members to listen to guest speakers, gain experience from internships and have volunteer opportunities at hospitals or clinics. My love for wanting to help others can be traced back to the loving nurture of my family and community. By wanting to give back, I want to serve others.

I want all the committees in PMA to collaborate with each other to make events that can be held annually such as a Health Fair or a Game Day in which the public and UHM Body can be apart of.

Jenny Nguyen

Officer Position of Interest: Director of Social Relations

I was born in Vietnam and moved to Hawaii when I was three years old. I have been interested in the medical field my entire life but really knew that I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field when I lost my grandma with cancer in middle school. Since then, I have been trying to gain experiences and skills that will help in determining and preparing me for my role in the medical field. I am currently a third-year pre-medical undergraduate student studying biochemistry in hopes of becoming a family medicine physician or oncologist.

Why are you interested in this position?

Besides academics and extracurricular activities, another important aspect in college is the people we meet on our journey towards the health care field. I have been fortunate to make many new friends who I have shared wonderful memories with and who have supported me during my time in PMA. With this, I wish to take on my respective officer position and allow members to make the same connections that I have been able to make with other members. I want to continue to create an environment where students with similar aspirations lift each other up and higher instead of competing to knock one another down. Whether this is by planning events enabling members to socialize or organizing a banquet where we all come together to celebrate our achievements.

I would like to get the opinions of members for what they would like to see more of or would prefer, then try to input their suggestions into events. I would also like to give members the opportunity to socialize with other health-related clubs that they otherwise would not know or have heard about. Listening to what members want and collaborating with other clubs not only improves PMA, but it will also better other clubs and may build friendships with students outside of PMA.

Nicolas Regaspi

Officer Position of Interest: Director of Multimedia and Publications

I am a hard-working and passionate team player willing to serve others to the best of my abilities. Coming from a single-parent household, I have strived to become the person I wished I had when growing up, not letting myself become a victim to the circumstances. I am the product of my own intentions and I hope to strive in every way the face of adversity.

Why are you interested in this position?

I am interested in serving PMA as the Director of Multimedia Publications because I want to be apart of something greater than myself. I want to slowly work my way up in the executive council, allowing myself to grow and take on the challenges of each new role as I, myself, will grow as well. I am interested in what makes PMA high-functioning unit of people, learning the ways team work and coordination allows for the efficacy of the club. I hope to become more open to others and build long-lasting fruitful relationships with the people who will be the future of Medicine.

I hope to make the website more interactive, include upcoming dates in a fashion that is accessible through the website, encourage member participation, and improve the ergonomics of event details and the dissemination of information.
